TAG Education Collaborative Partners with City of Atlanta to Deliver STEAM-Focused Summer Youth Employment Opportunities Through SYEP

ATLANTA, GA (May 2026) — Technology Association of Georgia’s TAG Education Collaborative (TAG-Ed) is proud to partner with the City of Atlanta as an official provider for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), delivering paid summer internship experiences focused on STEAM education, workforce preparation, and career exploration for Atlanta youth ages 14–15.

Running from June 8 through July 16, the four-week hybrid program will serve up to 50 youth interns residing within the City of Atlanta. Through a combination of in-person and virtual learning experiences, participants will engage in educational programming designed to prepare students for future careers in high-growth industries.

The initiative aligns with the Atlanta Department of Labor’s workforce priorities, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) regulations, and Mayor Andre Dickens’ “Atlanta Year of the Youth” initiative, which emphasizes expanding access and opportunities for young people across the city.

As part of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), TAG-Ed will provide participants with career exposure, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities centered around science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

“TAG-Ed is committed to helping students increase their knowledge, confidence, and technical skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce,” said Dr. Daniels, TAG-Ed’s Executive Director. “Through this partnership with the City of Atlanta, we are creating opportunities for young people to explore emerging technologies, improve professional development skills, and have exposure to career pathways that can change their futures.”

Key components of the program:

  • Introduction to artificial intelligence and responsible AI use
  • Applied STEAM and capstone projects
  • Career exploration across STEAM industries
  • Employer engagement and industry guest speakers

The program is designed to help students develop both technical and professional competencies while increasing awareness of STEAM careers, Artificial Intelligence literacy, and entrepreneurship, while embedding financial literacy, leadership development, and de-escalation strategies that support long-term economic mobility and community engagement.

Last year, nearly 6,000 young people participated in SYEP citywide, with multiple participants transitioning into permanent employment opportunities following their summer placements.
